Module 1 Reflection

I am not an education major and I never plan on working with children, but I decided to take this class because I believe that non-print media is just as important as print media. I am currently an Integrated Marketing Communications major (IMC for short) which combines public relations, advertising, and marketing. Within the major, we focus on both print and non-print, but I would say print is emphasized more. I wanted to familiarize myself with the non-print approach to media and learn the importance of using different mediums.

I think it is our responsibility to be wise consumers of media and how can we do this without understanding how it all works? One project can be completed in a number of different ways using a variety of different mediums and it is important to know what the options are. In today’s day and age you severely limit yourself if you are not familiar with the non-print aspect of media. We are constantly evolving and creating new technology with the purpose of fulfilling certain needs.

I plan on going into the fashion industry one day and every fashion month (there are 2 fashion months in a year: spring and fall) I see brands evolve in terms of their social media usage, blog posts, and many other types of non-print media. There is a symbiotic relation between fashion and media and everyone involved in the industry influences or are influenced by media (Fashion and Media). This class content, if I skew it in the right way to fit my needs as a non-education major, will help me with my future plans.
